Argent Palace Theatre, New York, NY, USA, 7th November 1973
In Deep was Argents fourth attempt to take the progressive crown in the US. Released in the spring of 1973, it was the follow up to the bands hugely successful All Together Now, featuring their breakthrough hit (and best-known song) Hold Your Head Up. Although In Deep would ultimately fail in providing the band with another massive hit, it did give rock music one of its most famous anthems in God Gave Rock and Roll To You, which became a Top 20 hit in the UK, but didnt break the Top 100 in the US. Ironically, it would become a bigger hit in the US in 1991 when Kiss covered it. Don Kirshners Rock Concert was barely a month into its premier season in 1973 when Argent landed a prestigious slot on the TV show. Featuring highlights from All Together Now as well as key tracks from their newest album and a pair of unreleased (at the time) rarities, this performance from the Palace Theater, New York on 7th November that year would inevitably attract a legion of new fans in America. London Calling revisits this classic vintage performance with a fully restored and professionally remastered KMPX-FM radio broadcast. Presented with background notes and timeline photos.
