Jackal was a progressive rock band hailing from Toronto, Ontario, active during the early 1970s. The group consisted of Charlie Shannon on lead vocals, Dave Bernard on guitar, Chris Kellesis on keyboards, Steve Hayward on bass, and Cameron Lauder on drums.
In 1973, they released their only album, Awake, through Periwinkle Records. The record fuses heavy progressive rock with psychedelic undertones, highlighting the band's strong instrumental chemistry, particularly between the organ and guitar. Although Awake saw only a limited release at the time, it has since become a prized find among collectors and fans of early '70s prog rock.
Awake is distinguished by its powerful organ and guitar-centric sound, often likened to the styles of bands such as Deep Purple and Warhorse. Its scarcity, combined with its unique musical character, has made it a highly coveted gem among progressive rock collectors and enthusiasts.
